Patton teachers suspend strike, reach tentative agreement with District 133
Monday night during the District 133 Board of Education meeting, the union representing teachers and aides at George S. Patton Elementary received and accepted a tentative agreement, hereby suspending their five-day strike until the whole membership can vote on the contract. Students will be back in classrooms with teachers tomorrow.
“I am so proud of my fellow Patton educators for standing together to fight for what our students deserve and what our community deserves,” said fifth grade teacher and Patton Federation of Teachers (PFT, IFT Local 943) President Sabrina Hawthorne. “District 133 has the funding to truly invest in our kids and give them a fully resourced education. Because of this strike – because of the dedication of our teachers and staff – we have fought to restore long-neglected programs and opportunities for students, and we have a contract that reflects the high-quality instruction and professionalism of Patton educators. I’m glad to see the Board of Education has taken their responsibility to our community seriously and finally recognize the hard work and dedication our teachers and staff put in each day.”
The details of the agreement will not be available until the union has had a chance to review and ratify it.
