In just a few days, our union will join people all across the country as the U.S. kicks off some special weeks designed to recognize and honor the incredible work of teachers, public employees, and nurses. As leader of the IFT, I want to be among the first to offer my thanks and gratitude to you for your tireless commitment and dedication to our students and citizens during Teacher Appreciation Week (8-12), Public Service Recognition Week (7-13), and National Nurses Week (6-12).
I am continually impressed and inspired by you, as a professional and union colleague. Despite the fact that you rarely get the credit you deserve, you give everything you have and everything you are to those you support and serve. Your job is often intense and exhausting - both physically and emotionally - but you never ease up because you know how much you are needed. Simply put, you are a hero.
Whether you teach or care for our students in grades K-20 or provide critical public services to Illinoisans, our students and citizens would not thrive without you. And neither would our union.
YOU make us #IFTstrong!
Please know that we celebrate you, not just during these special weeks, but every day of the year. Thank you for all you do!
In gratitude and unity,
Dan Montgomery, IFT President
