Biden/Harris Watch Party

Inauguration Day for President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris can’t come soon enough. We are looking forward to turning the page on four long, dark years and having the opportunity to work with an administration that not only is willing to confront the crises we face—from the pandemic and economic crisis, to the climate emergency, to racial justice and our crisis of democracy—but also is ready to accomplish much more. We will work with the Biden-Harris administration and Democratic Congress to fight for the right of every person in America to thrive.

As the late Rep. John Lewis used to say, we’ve gotten into a lot of good trouble these last four years, with our activism and laser focus to elect Biden and Harris. Together, we—the AFT—ran a larger political program than we’ve ever run before. But without our members’ activism, none of this could have happened.

Given the pandemic and the recent attempted coup at the Capitol, virtually all of us will witness the swearing in of the president and vice president from afar. So let’s watch together!

On Wednesday, Jan. 20, please join a special Zoom watch party with AFT President Randi Weingarten, Secretary-Treasurer Fed Ingram, and Executive Vice President Evelyn DeJesus. On this historic day, let’s watch the inauguration together, and let’s be able to react, comment and, yes, celebrate together.

The formal inaugural ceremonies are still being finalized, but we’ll start our Zoom watch party at 11 a.m. EDT, about a half-hour before Biden is scheduled to take the oath of office.
