who we represent
The Illinois Federation of Teachers represents a broad spectrum of professionals in four membership divisions, as well as retirees in each.
Teachers
IFT represents Pre-K teachers in school districts throughout Illinois
as well as retired teachers.
PSRPs
IFT represents paraprofessionals and school-related personnel
in PreK-12 districts, colleges and universities throughout Illinois.
higher education
IFT represents higher education faculty, staff, and graduate employees at Illinois public universities and community colleges across Illinois.
public employees
IFT represents public employees in many Illinois state agencies, including the Illinois State Board of Education, the comptroller's office, and the secretary of state's office.
The IFT is governed by a triennial convention at which all federation members are represented by elected delegates of our unions. Convention delegates set broad policies and goals for the union movement
The Illinois Federation of Teachers supports the continuing education of high school seniors by awarding multiple annual scholarships.
As a member, you are part of your local union, the IFT with over 100,000 members, the AFT comprised of more than 1.4 million members, and the 10 million strong AFL-CIO.
IFT is committed to building power and engaging in social and economic issues. We're always looking for qualified professionals and volunteers to get involved in this important work.
IFT's constitution contains the fundamental principles that govern the operation of our organization.
Members who wish to redirect the portion ($35) of their 2024-25 IFT per capita dues that might be used for contributions to political candidates may do so using this process.
